This is just the type of opportunity that the Liberace Foundation should be giving grants to support. Where are the grants going? I don’t see them going to music programs on the last tax forms.

How many fine young musicians in this program if given the opportunity could become Liberace scholars?

I credit the University of Redlands with teaching me to appreciate music. When I was in elementary and junior high I had music clinics at the University and it hosted the San Bernardino County music competitions. Unlike certain people who never heard classical music or knew about Lee until late in life, University of Redlands instilled an enthusiasm for appreciation of music in both its classic and contemporary forms. Thank my music teacher Mr. C for why I write this blog today.

Please consider supporting University of Redlands Piano Camp in honor of Lee. The University also has a summer harp camp. To contact the school of music to make a donation click here.

About the U of R Summer Piano Camp:
The fourth annual Summer Piano Camp will happen July 25 through August 5, 2011 at the University of Redlands. The money raised from the concert will help to provide scholarships to deserving students who wish to attend the camp.

The University of Redlands Summer Piano Camp is a leading music program focused on developing the whole musician through a comprehensive curriculum and focus on collaboration and creative music making in a fun and stimulating environment. In contrast to primarily providing solo instruction and structured practice time, the University of Redlands Summer Piano Camp instead is based on enriching students through courses from the wide spectrum of music education, such as music theory, composition, improvisation, music history, and ensemble skills.

Students all participate in an ensemble of anywhere from 2 to 11 pianists, often involving more than one piano. In addition, they have the opportunity to participate in other unique class offerings which change yearly, including explorations examining music and its relation to art, drama, and even multimedia. A final concert showcases the students’ summer efforts, including a documentary which is primarily filmed by the students.
